Brave the cold and cobbles this January to help buy beds for local people in need

Leicester based charity, Charity Link, is looking for ‘guests’ for a very special sleepover later this month.

Starting at 8pm on Saturday 26th January, the charity, which provides essential items for local people in need, is appealing for supporters to join members of the office team in sleeping out in its office courtyard on Millstone Lane in Leicester city centre, with the aim of completing the challenge at 8am on Sunday 27th January.

Guests pledge to raise £60 in sponsorship which, due to Charity Link’s unique way of working (for every £10 donated to the charity it can raise £50 from charitable trusts), will help to provide beds and bedding for two local people in need.

Sue McEniff, Director of Charity Link, who will be taking part in the challenge herself, says: “Charity Link helps over 5,000 people each year, many of whom don’t have a home, adequate winter clothes, can’t afford to put on the heating, or don’t have a bed to sleep in. We believe that everyone deserves these things, no matter what crisis, illness, disability or difficulty they may be facing. By taking part in the Charity Link Sleepover our guests will be starting the new year by doing something really special to help change the lives of local people who are currently facing daily hardship.”

Charity Link organised the Sleepover for the first time in January 2018 with ten guests attending who went on to smash their fundraising targets and raise over £3,000. Sue adds: “Whilst it was extremely tough last year, even on a relatively mild night, there was also lots of chat and laughter and everyone felt that they’d really gained something from taking part. We hope that even more guest will join us this year for a unique experience.”

Charity Link was established in 1876 by local business people and caring individuals to assist those in Leicester experiencing poverty, hardship and crisis. In 1975 the charity expanded its work to include the areas of Leicestershire and Rutland and in 2012 it expanded its work into Northamptonshire to reach out to more vulnerable people in the East Midlands.
