Charity barn dance to raise funds to ensure local people are warm, safe and fed

Bawdon Lodge Farm, an events venue in Nanpantan in the heart of Charnwood Forest, is hosting a summer barn dance on the evening of Saturday 6th July to raise funds to help ensure that local people in need are warm, safe and fed.

Guests will enjoy an evening of dancing, food and drink with traditional live music from The Bedcote Ceilidh Band.  An expert caller will be on hand to make sure that everyone has a great night, whether or not they have experienced barn dancing before.

Proceeds from the night will be donated to Charity Link, a local charity which provides essential items, including food, clothing, beds and cookers, to vulnerable local people throughout Leicestershire.

Lynn Bailey, owner of Bawdon Lodge Farm alongside husband Richard, says: “We’ve been supporting Charity Link for a couple of years and are part of the charity’s ‘Proud Business Supporter’ Club.  We also provide a refreshment stop on the charity’s Leicestershire 3 Peaks Challenge each September but, as we’ve been able to learn more about the charity’s vital work, we wanted to do even more to help. As we have a barn, a barn dance seemed a great idea and we hope to raise lots for this fantastic local charity!”.

Susan McEniff, Director of Charity Link says: “We are so grateful to Lynn and the team for organising this barn dance to help us provide more essential items for local people in need – people who may not even have enough food to feed their family or a bed to sleep in.  For every £10 donated to Charity Link we can provide £50 worth of support so just by attending the barn dance guests will be helping to make a real difference – and we are sure they will have a great night too!”.

The night kicks off at 7pm and tickets cost £20 with a special offer of £35 for two tickets. A welcome drink and food is included. Tickets are available at https://www.bawdonlodgefarm.co.uk/barndance or call 01509 268080.

Charity Link was established in 1876 by local business people and caring individuals to assist those in Leicester experiencing poverty, hardship and crisis. In 1975 the charity expanded its work to include the areas of Leicestershire and Rutland and in 2012 it expanded its work into Northamptonshire to reach out to more vulnerable people in the East Midlands. Though times have changed Charity Link’s services are as vital today as they were over 140 years ago.  Charity Link finds funding to provide items that the majority of us take for granted, such as beds, fridges cookers, clothing, and in emergencies, vouchers for food. It also offers help with mobility equipment and visual aids not available on the NHS.  Its unique way of working – accessing money from charitable trusts around the UK that are available to help people in need – means that for every £10 donated Charity Link can raise £50 – all of the £50 goes to provide items for those most in need within the local community. Charity Link believes that all local people deserve a decent standard of living and should be able to fulfil their potential in life – with a right to adequate food, shelter and the means to keep warm, clean and rested – no matter what crisis, difficulty, disability or illness they may be facing.  The charity currently helps round 5,000 people each year, over a third of which are children and young people.  In 2017/18 Charity Link raised over £700,000 in charitable funds for those in need within our community.
