A thought provoking day at ‘A Picture of Poverty in Leicester’ event
18th November 2025
Yesterday our Operations Manager Laura and Asma from our Casework Team attended the ‘A Picture of Poverty In Leicester – and what can we do about it’ event at De Montfort University.
It was a full and thought-provoking event, that reiterated some stark statistics about life in Leicester for the most vulnerable in our community.
Laura and Asma met with passionate people working in the charitable sector. wider community and partners who refer clients to us for support. It was evident that – particularly during such challenging times – we must continue to collaborate and partner with other organisations who share our mission.
There were many productive discussions on how, together, we can help people in Leicester – a city where child poverty is more than double the national average and, as highlighted at the weekend in The Guardian and quoting Rachel Granger, an economics professor at De Montfort University, 20% of Leicester ranks as deprived – twice the national average.
There is much to be done to support people in Leicester, and we are passionate about continuing our work – in partnership with the 250 other charities and organisations who currently refer their clients to us for support and new collaborations – to make a meaningful difference.
