Budget Response
Response to today’s Budget, Susan McEniff, Director:
“We, like many organisations supporting the most vulnerable people in our community, are particularly disappointed that in today’s budget the Chancellor has not reinstated the £20 per week Universal Credit payment which so many passionately campaigned for.
Whilst changes to work allowance are welcomed, this does not help those people who are unable to work.
At Charity Link we regularly help when, often due to ill health, disability or carer responsibilities, people are simply unable to work.
Today’s budget will not help those struggling the most and for whom the £20 withdrawal means the difference between being able to pay for basics, such as food and heating, and living in destitution. We will continue to see heart-breaking stories of people who simply can not make ends meet.
As always, we will work tirelessly to ensure that everyone has the basics in life, including being warm, safe and fed. This is only possible with the help of our amazing supporters.”
