Ela’s story

Ela suddenly found herself becoming a parent to her younger sister due to the abuse her sister was subjected to by their mother. Moving back to the area to find a safe place to for them to live, Ela needed support to make their new house a home…

Ela compressed

Ela is in her early twenties and has suddenly found herself stepping into the role of a parent for her younger sister. Ela’s sister was removed from their mother’s care after being subjected to abuse.

Ela, who had been trying to build a life of her own and living elsewhere, immediately returned to the area she grew up in to protect and support her sister. However, this meant Ela had to leave her job and search for somewhere safe for them both to live. Ela found a small rented flat that she could just about afford, but currently, without a job and very little savings, she did not have the funds to purchase all the essential items needed to set up their new home.

Ela was referred to us seeking assistance, as both Ela and her sister were desperate for beds to sleep in. We have been able to help and both sisters now have a bed of their own to help them as they build a new life together.

"It’s fantastic to see all the ways the community comes together to improve the lives of people in need. From undertaking challenges, to dress-up days, quizzes, raffles and cake-bakes, to donating, setting up a regular gift, volunteering or spreading the word, it all helps to ensure people living in hardship are warm, safe and fed and have the basics in life that we all deserve."
