Lee’s story

Lee found himself in financial hardship when the impact of long COVID meant he couldn’t work.

Lee, who is in his fifties, was referred to us for help by a local charity as he was in desperate need of a fridge freezer and a washing machine.

Lee has worked all his adult life but at the start of the pandemic he was struck down with COVID-19 and was seriously ill for three months. Whilst his condition did improve, he struggled to recover completely and he has been diagnosed with long COVID. This has meant he couldn’t return to work due to the impact on his health and he has since lost his position adding to his stress.

Already on a low income, this unexpected change in circumstance and the rising cost of living meant that Lee couldn’t keep up with his debt repayments from before he became ill. This eventually resulted in his washing machine and his fridge freezer being repossessed. He has been asking family members to help with his washing but this has caused a strain on relationships. He has also been buying foods that can be eaten the same day or which don’t need refrigerating, but this often results in unhealthy or expensive meals.

Thanks to your support we have been able to help Lee by providing these two household essentials. They are helping to make a significant improvement to his wellbeing as he continues his recovery during these tough times.

"It’s fantastic to see all the ways the community comes together to improve the lives of people in need. From undertaking challenges, to dress-up days, quizzes, raffles and cake-bakes, to donating, setting up a regular gift, volunteering or spreading the word, it all helps to ensure people living in hardship are warm, safe and fed and have the basics in life that we all deserve."
