Michael was recently referred to us by his Tenancy Support Officer. He’d faced a number of challenges which had left him in financial hardship and in desperate need of our help.
Michael worked but juggled a low income, with constant pressures due to cost of living price rises. He lived by himself in a mobile home, but when this flooded, many of his possessions were damaged. Michael moved to temporary accommodation whilst the property dried, but during this time the mobile home became infested with rats and he was unable to return.
He moved into local authority accommodation to try to make a new home for himself, but this was unfurnished, and he was living without many items he needed. Then, soon after moving, he had a fall and broke his ankle. As his job in construction was physically demanding, he was unable to work and he was
moved onto statutory sick pay. This further reduction in income meant buying the basics he needed became even harder, and the washing machine and cooker he desperately needed became even further out of reach.
His feelings of self-worth were decreasing. Michael’s Support Officer knew that having these items would make a positive impact, helping to improve Michael’s health, dignity and standard of living and together they applied to us for support.
We were delighted to be able to step in and provide these two essential items for Michael. They have made a massive difference as he continues his recovery and settles into his new home with positive hopes for the future.
