Phil’s story

Phil was struggling to provide all the items he needed to purchase to ensure a decent standard of living for himself and his adult daughter who has learning difficulties and significant health issues.

Phil was trying his best to care for his daughter but life was a struggle

Referred to us by another charity, Phil is a carer for his adult daughter who has learning difficulties and a number of health conditions, including epilepsy. She is also incontinent and needs considerable support.

When their landlord wanted the furnished property they were living in back, Phil struggled to find an alternative property he could afford. He eventually found somewhere they could move to but it was an unfurnished property and this left Phil and his daughter without many essential white goods and other household items, and no money to buy them all.

Having previously been retired, Phil has started working part-time to try to make ends meet.  Working whilst managing his caring responsibilities makes life difficult, and although he is now working, the family’s income remains low and whilst Phil purchased some items, he could not afford all the things the family needed for a decent standard of living, which added to his anxiety.

Thanks to your support, we’ve now been able to give Phil a helping hand to help make life a little easier. Together we have provided the family with a washing machine and bed for Phil’s daughter. These items are helping Phil to keep on top with the family’s washing, which, due to his daughter’s health issues are considerable, and helping to ensure she can get a decent sleep which also aids Phil’s rest. Two items that have helped to increase wellbeing considerably. Thank you.

"It’s fantastic to see all the ways the community comes together to improve the lives of people in need. From undertaking challenges, to dress-up days, quizzes, raffles and cake-bakes, to donating, setting up a regular gift, volunteering or spreading the word, it all helps to ensure people living in hardship are warm, safe and fed and have the basics in life that we all deserve."
