Ruby is a single parent with four young children. Due to cost-of-living increases, Ruby was struggling to make ends meet on her limited income.
Then, at around the same time, both her washing machine and fridge freezer stopped working properly. The washing machine was leaking water all over the floor each time she used it and was damaging clothes, and her fridge freezer had stopped cooling food, causing it to go mouldy quickly.
This meant Ruby was having to shop daily for food at an expensive local shop, which was costing her more than normal and leading to even greater anxiety about how she could provide for her children.
As she had no way to save for the items she needed on her low income, Ruby sought help and was referred to us for support. After assessing her need and untapping the funds required, we were able to provide these essential items for Ruby and her children.
Ruby is now able to shop more cost-effectively and more easily provide nutritious meals for her children. She also no longer has the physical and emotional distress of having to handwash the family of five’s clothes. Two essential items we have provided may seem relatively small but have made a huge impact on the family’s quality of life.
