Sonya’s story

Sonya needed help to provide beds for her family after they fled domestic abuse.

Sonya was referred to us for help by a domestic abuse charity after she fled her home with her three boys.

Sonya is now trying to get by as a single parent and is working part-time in the hospitality industry. Her wage is low and she relies on Universal Credit to help make ends meet, but it is becoming increasingly difficult as the cost of all the essentials she needs for herself and the boys go up.

Although the family is trying to rebuild their lives in a new tenancy, Sonya couldn’t afford all the items she needed to make the unfurnished property into a proper home for the family. She desperately needed beds for herself and two of her children but had no way to pay for these without getting into debt she would struggle to repay.

Thanks to your support we have been able to provide the beds Sonya desperately needed and these have made such a difference to the family in creating a new, safe and comfortable home.

"It’s fantastic to see all the ways the community comes together to improve the lives of people in need. From undertaking challenges, to dress-up days, quizzes, raffles and cake-bakes, to donating, setting up a regular gift, volunteering or spreading the word, it all helps to ensure people living in hardship are warm, safe and fed and have the basics in life that we all deserve."
