Tom’s story
Single dad, Tom, recently moved out of temporary accommodation with his children into a home of their own. But they were unable to call the house a home without the essential household items they need for a decent standard of living.
Tom has recently become a single parent and is trying his best to care for his children. Tom would love to get back to work but is finding this difficult due to the cost of childcare in the school holidays and his mental health challenges, so he is currently reliant on limited benefits.
Tom and his children recently moved from temporary accommodation into their own tenancy, but this was completely unfurnished. With very little money, Tom couldn’t afford all the items he needed to set up the home he desperately wanted for his children. Not having a cooker was having a big impact – not being able to cook hot and healthy meals, feelings of low self-esteem, and feeling like he could not provide for his children.
Tom was referred to us by a local homeless charity and we’ve now provided Tom with this essential item – so vital for the family’s wellbeing.
