Run for Charity Link

There are runs and races of various distances across the UK which you can enter to help raise funds to support local people in crisis and hardship.

You simply apply for your own place in these events and if successful in let us know that you are running as part of ‘Team Charity Link’ and we can provide t-shirt or running vest, fundraising support and resources.  If you would like to run an event for Charity Link, please email rachel.markham@charity-link.org to let us know!

Events include:

The Leicester Marathon (or half marathon) – this event takes place annually in October and is a run with a great atmosphere and pleasant course suitable for those attempting a distance run for the first time or keen runners.

**2020 event update**

The event planned for 11th October (which was going to be the first ‘Run Leicester Festival’ ) has been cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Instead the organisers are asking people to take part in a virtual event – ‘Run the World’ from 1st – 30th September.  Full details on the organisers website:  Leicester Marathon.

You can choose to link your fitness logging device and run as many miles as you wish during the period.

If you would like to link your running around the world efforts to raising funds for Charity Link we would of course be extremely grateful and there is no doubt we need your support more than ever.

It costs £15 to register and you will receive a Run the World medal from the organisers.

The Leicestershire Half Marathon takes place in February  at the lovely location of Prestwold Hall.  We’d love you to join team Charity Link.

Leicester’s Big 10K – This race around Abbey Park in April. For details visit the organisers website.

 

The London Marathon  

The event which many feel is the ‘ultimate’ running event in the UK. Why not enter the ballot to see if you are ‘lucky’ enough to get a place! The race takes place in April and the ballot for the next year’s race opens shortly afterwards. Visit www.virginmoneylondonmarathon.com

Due to the pandemic the April 2020 was cancelled. Runners could transfer their place to the ’40th race’ (virtual event)  taking place on Sunday 4th October 2020 or move to the next event on 3rd October 2021.

You have 23 hours and 59 minutes to complete 26.2 miles ‘your way’.

It costs £20 to enter.

The Robin Hood Marathon Festival in Nottingham is a well-established East Midlands event taking place in late September. Visit www.robinhoodhalfmarathon.co.uk

The Great North Run – the biggest half marathon event in the UK is a fun event which takes place in Newcastle each September. Enter the ballot for places at http://www.greatrun.org

Northampton Half Marathon – taking place in September this race begins in the city centre – www.northamptonhalfmarathon.co.uk  Run for Charity Link and raise £200 for us and we will refund the cost of your place. Get in touch for details.

Vitality 10,000 in London – taking place in May, this event starts at St James’s Park and ends at The Mall and the route passes many of London’s famous sights including Admiralty Arch, Nelson’s Column, St Paul’s Cathedral, Mansion House, the Bank of England, the Old Bailey, Somerset House, Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey before finishing opposite Buckingham Palace. It’s a great option if you haven’t managed to get a place in the full marathon or  are not quite up to 26.2 miles but want to experience a similar atmosphere.

Unfortunately the 2020 for which we had guaranteed places, please postponed until 2021.  If you are interested in running in this event in the future please get in touch.

 

 

Mud runs

There are also a number of mud run challenges which are becoming increasingly popular, including The Wolf Run  and Tough Mudder . Does something take your fancy?!
