Charity Link’s Leicestershire 3 Peaks Challenge – have you got what it takes?!
18th August 2021
Leicester-based charity Charity Link has been supporting people in financial hardship (through the provision of essential items), for over 140 years.
Having previously helped during Spanish Flu and two World Wars, Charity Link has been well-placed to offer support during the latest COVID-19 crisis. Since March 2020 the charity has helped 7,000 people, providing food, clothing, beds, cookers, grants for utilities and other essentials – all whilst many of the charity’s usual fundraising activities were postponed.
The increase in need that the charity has seen due to the pandemic will continue for a considerable time and as such this year’s Leicestershire 3 Peaks Challenge – one of Charity Link’s key annual fundraising events – is more vital than ever. The charity is now looking for individuals, families, friends and teams of work colleagues to take part on Sunday 26th September.
The event, launched in 2016, sees Challengers walk (or run!) a unique 16 mile route around beautiful Charnwood scenery. The 2021 event starts at one of Charity Link’s Proud Business Supporters – Bawdon Lodge Farm – an event venue in the heart of Charnwood Forest. Challengers then return to cross the finish-line, having climbed the two highest peaks in Leicestershire – Beacon Hill and Bardon Hill, along with Old John Tower in Bradgate Park, plus plenty of other hills, fields and woodland along the way!
Whilst a challenge worthy of earning sponsorship, the route is designed to be suitable for most with a bit of training (the youngest Challenger is 11, the eldest well in to their seventies!).
There is a Corporate Team Challenge for local businesses (great for team building!) and it’s a really friendly event for those taking part by themselves. An information pack and registration forms can be found at www.charity-link.org/leics3peaks or by calling 0116 222 2200. Due to Charity Link’s unique way of working, every £10 raised helps to provide £50 worth of essential items for those most in need in the local community, so by taking part you really will be helping to make a difference.
