Support Maryam’s Sea to Sea Challenge
We are delighted that Maryam Amatullah from Highfields has chosen to support Charity Link for her 136 mile Sea to Sea bike ride which begins on 29th April.
Maryam (44), a Schools and Neighbourhood Officer, became a regular cyclist six years ago after wanting to encourage her daughter to enjoy the outdoors. Maryam is a British Cycling Breeze Champion & Ride Leader, membership secretary for Leicester Women’s Velo Cycling Club; she’s even won a couple of awards encouraging women from BME communities to get on a bike and was one of the cycling doves at London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony.
Maryam was keen to take on the Sea to Sea Challenge – her first long distance ride – and decided she wanted to raise money for a local charity at the same time.
Maryam says: “I wanted to support a local charity that helps families living in poverty. I believe strongly in helping and supporting your own community to contribute and make a positive impact upon people’s lives.”
Maryam will be riding from Whitehaven to Tynemouth and will be covering 136 miles over five days. The biggest section is Allenheads to Newcastle (around 40 miles) on day four.
Maryam is riding with some cycling club friends and is looking forward to the experience -though not the hills!. She has set a fundraising target of £500, which would enable Charity Link to provide £2,500 worth of items to local people in need.

Good luck Maryam!
