Kim’s story
Kim was struggling with the rising cost of living and finding it difficult to afford food, utilities and clothing for herself and her daughter.

Kim was a teacher but, as a single mum, she moved to a different role so she could meet the childcare needs of her daughter, who is now 11, and this meant a reduction in her income.
With the rising cost of living, Kim has been finding it ever more challenging to make ends meet. Over the past two years she has cut back on all but the very essentials and manages her money carefully, but the family had no choice but to use foodbanks over the winter and have only been putting the heating on for very short periods when essential. Kim has also been struggling to buy the clothes needed for her daughter who has been regularly outgrowing her school uniform and other clothes. Kim hadn’t bought herself clothing for some time, her winter boots were letting in water and her coat was old and not keeping her warm. The stress of the situation meant that Kim was signed off from her current role with severe anxiety. Kim is also aware that, whilst she tries to keep the situation from her daughter, worries about money have also been keeping her awake at night.
Kim was referred to us for help with the essential clothing that both she and her daughter needed during this difficult period. And, thanks to your support, we have been able to help. On hearing the good news Kim said:
“Thank you so, so much. This is going to make such a difference to us. I’m completely overwhelmed. Thank you, from the very bottom of my heart.” Thank you for helping us to change lives!
"It’s fantastic to see all the ways the community comes together to improve the lives of people in need. From undertaking challenges, to dress-up days, quizzes, raffles and cake-bakes, to donating, setting up a regular gift, volunteering or spreading the word, it all helps to ensure people living in hardship are warm, safe and fed and have the basics in life that we all deserve."
