Katie’s story
Due to a lack of funds, young mum Katie couldn’t afford the storage she needed for her flat and was worried this may lead to her eviction…
Katie was referred to us for help by her support worker. A young mum living with her toddler and baby, Katie has been diagnosed with a number of mental health conditions which mean she is currently unable to work. As a result, Katie has very little spare money after all her essential payments are made each month. This meant she’d been unable to purchase many items of furniture for her rented flat and the family had barely any storage. Katie’s landlord had advised her that having all the family’s clothes and possessions piled up in each room was a fire hazard and she must sort it out, but Katie had no way to afford the items she needed.
Thanks to your support we’ve been able to provide Katie with storage units so the family can have a better home environment and Katie, who was worried her landlord may evict them, has one less thing to worry about and she continues to care for her family.
"It’s fantastic to see all the ways the community comes together to improve the lives of people in need. From undertaking challenges, to dress-up days, quizzes, raffles and cake-bakes, to donating, setting up a regular gift, volunteering or spreading the word, it all helps to ensure people living in hardship are warm, safe and fed and have the basics in life that we all deserve."
