Nathaniel’s story

After a stroke Nathaniel was made homeless. He was staying with his son in shared accommodation but this was not sustainable…

Nathaniel for web

Nathaniel was in his sixties when he suffered a stroke. While recovering in hospital, he was evicted from his rented home and lost many of his items.

When Nathaniel was discharged, with no home to go back to, he went to stay with his son, who helped to care for him. But, as this was in shared accommodation, Nathaniel was unable to get the rest he needed in such a busy house, and the situation wasn’t practical long-term.

Nathaniel moved to new rented accommodation, but without savings and living on only a state pension, he couldn’t afford to replace all of the items he’d lost when he was in hospital, many of which were vital for his recovery.

Nathaniel was referred to Charity Link for help, and we’ve been able to provide a duvet and bedding, cutlery and crockery, and a microwave. These small but vital items are helping Nathaniel to rest well at night and eat hot meals that he is able to prepare for himself. Nathaniel is now continuing his recovery in the quiet, calm flat he is making a home.

"It’s fantastic to see all the ways the community comes together to improve the lives of people in need. From undertaking challenges, to dress-up days, quizzes, raffles and cake-bakes, to donating, setting up a regular gift, volunteering or spreading the word, it all helps to ensure people living in hardship are warm, safe and fed and have the basics in life that we all deserve."
